HOW TO CULTIVATE WHEAT IN THE FIELD IN VERY EASY STEPS
Here’s a simple step-by-step guide to cultivating wheat in a field, suitable for beginners:
Step-by-Step Wheat Cultivation
1. Choose the Right Time
Best time to sow wheat:
Rabi (winter) season – usually October to December, depending on your region.
2. Select a Suitable Variety
Choose high-yield, disease-resistant wheat seeds based on your local climate and soil. Examples: HD-2967, PBW-343, Lok-1, etc.
3. Prepare the Land
First plowing: Deep plow the field to break up soil.
Second plowing: Use a harrow or cultivator to level and remove weeds.
Add organic manure or compost to improve fertility.
4. Seed Rate & Sowing
Use 100–120 kg seeds per hectare.
Sowing method: Use a seed drill or by hand in rows, spaced about 20–22 cm apart.
Seed depth: 4–5 cm deep.
5. Fertilizers
Add Nitrogen (N), Phosphorus (P), and Potash (K) according to soil test.
Common: 120:60:40 kg NPK per hectare.
Apply half nitrogen and all P&K at sowing. The rest nitrogen after 30–40 days.
6. Irrigation
Wheat needs 4–5 irrigations:
1. Crown root stage (21–25 days) – very important
2. Tillering
3. Booting
4. Milking
5. Dough stage
7. Weed Control
Remove weeds manually or use herbicides like 2,4-D or isoproturon after 25–30 days of sowing.
8. Pest & Disease Management
Common problems: Rust, smut, aphids.
Use appropriate fungicides/insecticides if needed.
9. Harvesting
Harvest when the wheat turns golden yellow and grains are hard.
Use a sickle or combine harvester.
10. Post-Harvest
Dry the grains under sunlight for a few days.
Store in cool, dry, pest-free storage.
